Why strong passwords matter

The most common way accounts get compromised isn't sophisticated hacking — it's weak or reused passwords. When one service you use suffers a data breach, attackers take those leaked credentials and try them across thousands of other sites in what's called a "credential stuffing" attack.

A strong, unique password for every account is the single most impactful thing most people can do for their online security. Using a password manager — especially one that generates passwords for you — is the easiest way to achieve this.

What makes a password strong?

• Length above all: Length is the single biggest factor. A 20-character password with only letters is harder to crack than a 10-character password with every character type.
• Randomness: Human-chosen passwords follow predictable patterns (words, names, dates, keyboard walks). A CSPRNG-generated password has no pattern for attackers to exploit.
• Uniqueness: Reusing a password means a single breach compromises all accounts that use it. Every account deserves its own random password.
• Character variety: Mixing uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols increases the effective search space. But don't sacrifice length for variety — longer wins.
